📋 Overview
The AKASO Brave 7 LE action camera features an IPX7 waterproof rating, allowing it to be submerged up to 1 meter (3.3 feet) without an external case. However, for deep dives or prolonged saltwater activities (such as surfing or snorkeling), it must be placed inside the included waterproof housing, which protects the device up to 40 meters (131 feet).
Saltwater contains highly corrosive elements. If the camera or its housing is not properly maintained after contact with saltwater, it can lead to permanent damage to seals and electronic components. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to ensure your camera remains fully operational.
🛠️ Troubleshooting & Maintenance Steps
Step 1: Immediate Post-Use Rinsing & Cleaning
Salt crystals can scratch waterproof seals and cause leaks. Prompt cleaning is critical.
Freshwater Soak: Keep the camera securely locked inside the waterproof housing, and submerge the entire housing in clean, room-temperature freshwater for 5 to 10 minutes. Gently shake it to dislodge trapped salt residue and debris.
Housing & Camera Surface Rinse: If used bare (under 1 meter), ensure all port covers are tightly sealed (listen for a "click"). Rinse the camera body with gentle freshwater.
⚠️ Warning: Do not use high-pressure water, hot springs, or hot water, as excessive pressure and heat will destroy the waterproof seals. Never use alcohol or chemical detergents.
Wipe Down: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe the exterior of the housing and camera. Use a clean cotton swab to gently clean the gaps around the camera's USB cover, and battery cover.
Step 2: Proper Drying Process
Moisture must be completely eliminated to prevent internal corrosion, short circuits, or mold.
Natural Ventilation: Remove the camera from the housing. Open the camera’s USB port cover and battery cover slightly to allow internal moisture to evaporate.
Environment: Place all components in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. Air dry for 24 to 48 hours.
⚠️ Warning: Keep away from direct sunlight, heating vents, or hair dryers. High heat will warp the rubber gaskets and ruin the camera's waterproof integrity.
Condensation Check: If sudden temperature changes cause fogging inside the lens or housing, stop usage immediately and allow it to dry completely in a low-humidity environment. What Should I Do If There Is Water Mist or Fogging Inside the Screen or Lens?
Step 3: Inspection & Long-Term Storage
Seal Inspection: Before storing or reusing, carefully check the rubber seals on both the camera covers (USB/Battery) and the waterproof housing backdoor for cracks, wear, or deformities.
Battery Storage: For storage longer than two weeks, remove the battery and memory card. Store the battery at a 50-60% charge in a cool place.
Storage Environment: Seal the camera and housing in a container with silica gel desiccant at a stable temperature between 22°C and 28°C (72°F to 82°F).
🚨 Critical Warnings
No Sound in Case: Note that the camera cannot record audio while sealed inside the waterproof housing.
Water Ingress Protocol: If you suspect water has entered the camera, DO NOT turn it on. Immediately remove the battery and contact AKASO Customer Support. Turning on a wet camera causes permanent short circuits. Here is an article for reference: What to do if water gets into the Brave 7 LE camera?
Waterproof Test: Always perform a dry-run waterproof test (submerging the empty housing in water) before placing your camera inside for a dive.
