At AKASO, we strongly advise against manually changing the file names of recordings made with your AKASO 360 camera.
Why We Do Not Recommend Renaming Files:
- Time and Date Sync Relies on the App
The camera itself does not have an internal time/date setting. The correct timestamp is applied only when the camera is synchronized with the AKASO app. If you start recording without connecting to the app first, the recorded files will retain the camera’s default system time.
- File Names Reflect Recording Order and Timestamp
After syncing time and date with the app, files are generated in chronological order. The file names are directly linked to the date and time of recording. This naming convention helps maintain the correct sequence of your media.
- App and Studio Software Depend on Original File Names
Both the AKASO app and AKASO Studio software use the original file names to identify whether files belong to the same group or series. If you rename a file, the app and Studio may not recognize or locate the corresponding media.
- Risk of Playing Low-Quality Proxy Files
While renaming does not alter the actual pixel quality of the original file, the software may fail to locate the high-resolution version. As a result, it might only play the low-resolution proxy file (which has significantly lower bitrate and quality).
- Impact on Multi-File Functions
Certain features—such as DNG8 or AEB (Auto Exposure Bracketing)—generate a series of related files. If you rename any of these files, AKASO Studio will be unable to automatically detect and process the complete set.
What to Do If You Have Already Renamed a File
If you have already renamed a file but still have at least one file with the original name, you can revert the changes by matching the original naming structure.
Refer to the sample file names below:
- A360_20250528_160256_000001_01
- A360_20250528_160256_000001_02
- A360_20250528_160256_000001_proxy
Structure Breakdown:
- Second & Third Segments:
20250528_160256→ Year, Month, Day, Hour, Minute, Second - Fourth Segment:
000001→ Video sequence number - Fifth Segment:
01,02, orproxy→ Camera source or file type
All files from the same recording session should have identical names except for the final suffix (01, 02, or proxy).
To restore proper function in the app and Studio, ensure all related files follow the original naming format with matching segments before the suffix.
For best results, always sync your camera with the AKASO app before recording and avoid renaming files manually.
