In the course of using a camera, especially an action camera, the lens is prone to getting dirty. Therefore, regular lens cleaning is essential to ensure optimal image quality.
1. Gentle Fogging and Wiping Method
The most effective and safest method for cleaning the lens is as follows. Gently breathe on the lens to create a fine layer of fog. This helps to loosen any dirt or debris on the lens surface. Subsequently, use a soft, lint - free cloth to carefully wipe the lens. In the context of action cameras, due to their often - rugged usage environments, the lens may accumulate various types of dirt, and this gentle method is preferred to avoid scratching the lens.
2. Using Water with a Microfiber Towel (Optional)
If the dirt on the lens is more stubborn, water can be used in combination with a microfiber towel for a more thorough cleaning. However, extreme caution must be exercised. Moisten the microfiber towel slightly with water. Then, gently wipe the lens in a circular motion. This method should be used sparingly as excessive water can potentially seep into the lens system.
3. Caution Regarding Cleaning Solutions
We strongly advise against using a cleaning solution. If a cleaning solution is used, there is a significant risk that the fluid may enter the lens system. Once inside, it can take an inordinately long time for the fluid to evaporate. In action cameras, the lens/barrel interface is a particularly vulnerable area. Even the tiniest gap around this interface can cause capillary pressure to draw the fluid around the edge of the lens, which may lead to internal damage or distortion of the optical elements.
